Monolith
Well in celebration of all these birthdays, I think we should go to an amazing music festival!
Josh at 27
1981 was a good year for grandkids: Elizabeth, Andy, Josh, and Matt. How I love all of you guys!
Josh is 27 today. Tons of memories return to this 54-year old's head, of waking up and hearing that Bev was in labor, of going to the hospital, of his birth, and of holding him for the first time and all the joy that went with it. And the memories still come back of so many birthday parties and special times.
My firstborn -- now married and a proud daddy, soccer coach and Bible teacher, tall and big blue eyes, an always happy and excited guy -- continues to be a blessing to us. We are so proud of Josh.
May his 27th birthday be filled with joy!

Hi guys,
It's another scorcher out here in eastern Colorado. It's gotten up to 100 degrees several days recently.
I have fans running all night in an attempt to cool off the house. My goal is to get interior of the house below 70 degrees. Then I shut all the windows.
Evan is working on the trash truck this summer. Isn't that a good job for the summer before you start college?
The trash truck drops him at the house for lunch and picks him up again. Before eating lunch, he changes from stinky clothes into clean clothes, then scrubs his face, hands and arms. I usually prepare his lunch, much to Meg's annoyance. She wants me to cook for her, too. When she rides around all day on a hot, stinky garbage truck, I will fix her lunch.
Evan, ate his lunch today, then disappeared. I found him in bed under a down quilt. 'It's too cold in the kitchen,' says he. I cracked up!

Happy Birthday, Katie!
So I know I'm a couple hours early for your birthday, Katie, but I'm going out of town tomorrow and wanted to make sure that I wished you a happy birthday before I got too far away from technology. You're such a great cousin and I'm so blessed to be related to you. Hopefully some of your grace and sweetness runs in the Bontrager genes and I'll become more like you one of these days. Iowa Flooding
Hey guys, I'm sure you've all heard about Iowa City being flooded. Judy gave me this information about our family there:
As far as I know the people in Iowa City & Kalona areas are fine. Sherri Jo's daughter's house was inundated so she and 2 big dogs are living with her. Sherri's hospital flooded and they had to evacuate 187 patients so now she has no work for awhile. My child hood friend Alicia Putnam's house is still under water and they won't let her near it, she is distraught. One of her daughters lives high on a hill in north Iowa City so they are staying with her.
If anyone has any other info, please post it here. Please keep this area and the people there in your prayers!

Sir, Trainee Rusk reports as ordered!
so! just called patty to rsvp, and realized i should probably post an update over hyar.
i've turned in my application for the air force, so the next step is to take the armed services vocational aptitude battery. i can do that any monday or thursday at fort carson, but my advanced algebra, trigonometry, etc. are... shall we say, less than graceful right now. so i'm going to brush up on that real quicklike, and hopefully get that test out of the way within the next 30 days. once i do that, i have to go to denver for 2 days for a physical, and while i'm there, if i meet their requirements, i'll sign a contract and take an oath, and will henceforth be in the delayed enlistment program. after that, the recruiter tells me i'll probably start basic training in september or october, and right before i leave, i go back to denver for another physical.
i have to gain about 15 pounds to meet the minimum weight requirement for my height, so it looks like i'll be investing in some big-guy-muscle-man powder to build muscle mass. and i'm going to have to start working out, because otherwise it won't be muscle mass, and i have to keep my body fat under 20%. and that's about all i know!

Micah is 21 today! Craziness. I still remember vividly the day he was born, and was so excited that God had answered my prayer to send me and Betsy a baby brother. You are such a cool mansirboy, Micah! God has blessed you with so much talent and insight. You challenge me just about every time I talk to you.
While I was getting ready to write this, I thought, how cool would it be if we could sort of celebrate each cousin's birthday on the blog. Party for Matt

Mr. and Mrs. Carlos Ramirez II....
Yes, as Micah mentioned, 5/31 was Elizabeth's fabulous wedding in beautiful southern CA. It was so great seeing all of you that were there, and we really missed those that couldn't make it. Elizabeth was a beautiful bride and the ceremony was awesome...God's presence was so richly present! The reception was outside in a beautiful tree-lined courtyard. I loved seeing ya'll last weekend! I really needed it. Also, special thanks to those who came to the Mouthbook show. That was really fun.
Although, I am a little bummed that I didn't really get any quality one on one time with you. So can we make sure that happens when I get home? That would be great. I'll let you know when I'm back in the best state ever. Yes, that's right, I've decided not to stay here and join the band after all. I would miss you guys too much!
The rest of my summer is pretty booked with more travels and mountains and music, but I'll be home by autumn. See you then (unless anyone wants to join me before then?? eh?)
